The Georgia Cruiser have had enough. We're joining in the fight for Tellico by helping those who have taken on the fight for us. By now everyone has heard of "Rescue Tellico", if you haven't visit the SFWDA website for details. We are joining an already united and strong fight for Tellico OHV by contributing badly needed funds to the SFWDA, UFWDA, Blue Ribbon Coalition and many other active groups who are working to take back what has been taken from us. In support of these groups the Georgia Cruisers are raffling away a Toyota FJ62 Land Cruiser, Tickets are $10 and available at http://www.gacruisers.com/ and at events across the southeast including GSMTR, Coal Mine Classic, OTMT, Beasley Bash, Ga. Cruisers' Annual and many others. The winning ticket will be picked in early December at the Georgia Cruisers' Toys-for-Tots event held in downtown Atlanta at the Varsity Restaurant. Participants do not need to be present to win and ALL PROCEEDS DONATED TO RESCUE TELLICO.
As part of the raffle for the 1989 Toyota FJ62 Land Cruiser we will include numerous upgrades and improvements. Plans call for new bumpers, 33 inch tires (donated by BFG,) New rock sliders, new transmission, new winch and much more. The interior will include refurbished seats and covers, a new head unit and CB radio. On the top, the truck it sports a roof rack for all your camping and expedition gear.
First, a little background on the donor truck. In April I received an email from a local Toyota FJ62 owner wanting to donate his truck to "the" local Toyota club. The email simply read: "I have an 89 Land Cruiser that has been in my driveway for more than a year and I want to donate it to your organization. Please let me know if you're interested." Along with the email was a phone number and his name. As these things don't happen every day I was a little skeptical but cautiously responded to this stranger's inquiry.
Upon meeting with the owner I got a little background on his truck. It turns out his dad had bought it new in 1989, for years he drove it back and forth to work, took it on various camping trips and of course it shuttled kids and groceries around suburbia. Unfortunately, his father passed away a few years ago thus leaving the truck to his son. Once again the dependable truck served reliably as a daily commuter until early 2008 when it was finally parked for good. Having bought a replacement 4-Runner the red Land Cruiser sat under a willow tree gathering small tree limbs and bird droppings. He continued on to say that he had always enjoyed borrowing his dad's truck as a teenager taking it on road trips and whatever else it is that teenagers do. Now years later and a little wiser he wanted to honor his father's memory by fixing up the old truck. Problem was he lacked the knowledge and tools to fulfill his desire so instead, he thought it best to give it someone who would love and care for it the way his father did. That was three months ago and brings us to why we're doing this
We owe a BIG THANKS to all of the organizations involved as we currently have a chance to save access to our public lands and so we feel it our duty to assist. Like most wheeling groups we've had the debate over the Tellico lawsuit with the expected opinions voiced. Fortunately, as a club we came together and decided one thing: that doing nothing was to seal our own fate. With that in mind the Georgia Cruisers decided to take on the task of raising money, begging for donations, seeking contributors and doing what is difficult all to rescue what is ours. After all, this is the American Spirit so we challenge everyone to get involved. Buy a ticket and save Tellico!
Help Support Rescue Tellico and WIN a Land Cruiser.
Good Luck!
