Southern HomeTellico River Road Campground Update

September 12, 2006

Keith Lannom, Tellico District Ranger in the Cherokee National Forest, reports:

United States Department of Agriculture
Forest Service
Cherokee National Forest
Tellico Ranger District
250 Ranger Station Road
Tellico Plains, TN 37385

All campgrounds within the Tellico River Corridor are open and available for use. New vault toilets have been installed at Walnut Grove, Birch Branch (#6), Davis Branch, and Rough Ridge (#8). The vault toilet at Holder Cove (#7) needs some additional work before it is ready for use and the vault toilet for Sourwood (#3) will be moved from Davis Branch in a few weeks. Most of the sites have picnic tables, lantern posts, and fire rings.

The recreation fees for these sites are:

  Campground   Daily Fee
  Walnut Grove Picnic Area   Free
  Sourwood   Free
Birch Branch   Free ($10 starting Jan 1, 2007)
  Davis Branch   $10
Holder Cove   Free ($10 starting Jan 1, 2007)
Rough Ridge   Free ($20 starting Jan 1, 2007)
  Stateline   $20

For an overview of the entire Tellico River Corridor recreation facility improvement project, visit the “Latest Recreation News” page on the Cherokee National Forest website at: www.fs.fed.us/r8/cherokee/recreation/latest_rec_news.shtml.

The corridor improvement project will enhance the camping experience for all Forest users and will allow the Forest Service to provide and maintain camping facilities that are safe, sanitary, and protect the natural resources of the Tellico River corridor.
