The 2014 BOD held its 1st online meeting last evening, March 17, 2014. A review of organizational business and updates on TrailFest, the new web site introduction and development of a new, fresh public relations mass distribution piece were the first topics.
The second major initiative of the "New" SFWDA was reviewed and the BOD approved the development of a formalized process for the emerging SFWDA Grant program. Final details will be presented to our membership in about 30 days. Stay tuned please for the introduction of the grass roots driven initiative. This is your SFWDA association and we are what we do!
In conjunction with the SFWDA Grant program, the BOD approved the Uwharrie Access Road project as the initial prototype Grant Award. The project details are currently being finalized by CTB members, Friends of Uwharrie and the local National Forest management team. The scope details include addressing ongoing maintenance issues on the access roads to the Uwharrie National Forest including the spreading of 100+ tons of stone. The goal is to have this work complete before the Spring opening of the area and address concerns and needs of a broad range of user groups. More details will be shared as they become available.

BFGoodrich Tires announces that nominations are now open for the 2014 Outstanding Trails program.
The competition invites off-road clubs from around North America to submit trails in their area they believe are worthy of a grant for maintenance or refurbishing. Trails are selected based on uniqueness, terrain type and enthusiast following.
Now in its ninth year, the Outstanding Trails program is conducted in collaboration with United Four Wheel Drive Associations (UFWDA) and Blue Ribbon Coalition and is dedicated to the responsible use and preservation of off-road trails while promoting the trails’ conservation efforts. To date, the program has awarded grants to 33 off-road trails nominated by 32 clubs throughout North America.
The program has provided more than $130,000 in grants in support of the various trails’ conservation efforts. “Off-road communities are vital for BFGoodrich as they embody the spirit and enthusiasm for the sport and for our products,” said Duane Thomas, brand communications manager for BFGoodrich Tires, “The Outstanding Trails program is a great source of pride for us, and being able to give back to this community by helping to maintain and refurbish the most deserving trails in North America is our way of

Mayor May / Alderman Layne, I have the general statement for your review to be used as a update on the current OHV Project upon approval by either one of you. Please reply all upon approval so that TOHVA and Southern Four Wheel Drive may update their persons of interest and celebrate the latest accomplishments.
"The Town of Coalmont and the Southern Four Wheel Drive Association presented the Coalmont OHV Park Project to the Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation (TDEC), Recreation and Education Services Program on Wednesday of this week. The presentation request came from the grant application submitted by the Town of Coalmont and Southern Four Wheel Drive in the Spring of 2011. Coalmont & Southern Four Wheel Drive feel good about the opportunity to initiate park development with grant funds from TDEC in the near future. TDEC & Coalmont will be completing final grant contract work in the coming months and working through specific project details. The grant funds will be focused on land acquisition and construction for the Trail Head and Day Use Area only. Trail access agreements for the proposed trail system are also in the development stages and will be undertaken in 2013 and 2014. The first two phases of the four phase project are expected to be completed by the end of 2014."
